The Legend of Princess Taisie
The Nine Glens of Antrim are rich in history and folklore, with Glentaisie named after Princess Taisie, known for her great beauty and royal heritage. According to legend, she was betrothed to Conghal, son of Conor, but Nabgodon, King of Norway, sought to claim her for himself. His attempt to seize Taisie ended in defeat, and as part of her dowry, the Dun of Taisie was built at Broomore in Glentaisie.
Taisie’s connection to Ballycastle and Rathlin Island has been celebrated for centuries. In 1904, the Taisie Banner was created as one of nine banners representing each of the Nine Glens of Antrim for the first Glens Feis (Feis na nGleann). It is the only known surviving banner from the event and is now displayed in Ballycastle Museum.
